Ethereum is a blockchain-based Open Source platform conceived by Vitalik Buterin, a Canadian Bitcoin programmer of Russian descent. Although he is still young, he has proven himself to be a dedicated cryptocurrency expert. Joseph Lubin is also known as co-founder of Ethereum as well as Consensys, a software production studio in NY dedicated to the development of distributed Ethereum applications. In the short time since its introduction, Ethereum has experienced an enormous influx of maintainers and users. Built upon a cryptographically encoded database of transactions, the network expands on the concept of Bitcoin with dynamic elements and thus aims to become the basis of entire blockchain ecologies. These additional protocols and algorithms are executed as DApps (Decentralized Applications) by a virtual runtime environment, the Ethereum Virtual Machine. The blockchain is therefore no longer just a list of transactions, but also guarantees the authenticity and correctness of entire automated transaction cycles and chains. In simple terms, DApps and Smart Contracts function like machines that are activated by a trigger to execute predefined actions - while always ensuring decentralization and transparency to the public. The currency unit of the network is called Ether.
Ethereum is also used as a platform for the creation of other cryptocurrencies. Based on the ERC20 token standard defined by the Ethereum Foundation, anyone can issue their own version of this token and raise money with an Initial Coin Offering (ICO). In this fundraising strategy, the issuers of the token set an amount they wish to collect, offer their tokens in a crowdsale and receive Ether in return.
Ethereum's price today is 1247.15 USD with a 24-hour trading volume of 50.5 Billion USD. ETH's price has changed -3.6% in the last 24 hours.

Ethereum is fundamentally stronger than it's ever been. Despite all of the criticism it continues to be the number one project by development activity, with a massive developer community. The project is in a good position to not only maintain its spot as the number one platform for smart contracts, but grow its dominance in the coming years.
In contrast to Bitcoin, Ethereum has set no upper cap on its supply. Keep in mind, however, that Ethereum is driven by the dApp ecosystem. This means that millions of developers and companies need Ether to fill their smart contracts and launch their applications.
Since Ethereum is one of the most popular cryptocurrencies, it is available on most major exchanges. Trading on an Ethereum exchange is simple. You exchange your traditional fiat currencies for Ethereum by specifying how many coins or tokens you want to buy or sell. If the exchange matches a suitable offer, the order is executed and credited to the customer. This is similar to trading traditional securities, like shares or ETFs.
The best exchange to trade Ethereum with USD is the Bybit Perpetual Futures Market, where 1 ETH is worth 1254.5 USD with a 24 hour trading volume of 2.4 Billion USD.
In a nutshell, Smart Contracts are pieces of computer code that can facilitate the exchange of money, content, property, shares, or anything of value. When a Smart Contract runs on a blockchain, it behaves as a self-propelled program that automatically runs once certain conditions are met - exactly as devised, without censorship, downtime, fraud, or third party intervention. Although all blockchains have the ability to run code, the majority are severely limited. Ethereum, however, allows developers to create applications of any kind imaginable. The possibilities are endless.
